There are members of the LDS church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) all over the world. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we go to church every week, but we go to a church building near us with the people who live in or around our neighborhood that are also members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

However, twice a year, we have General Conference which is a meeting for all the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from all over the world. How do we accomplish this? Every single member travels to Salt Lake City to attend the meeting. Just kidding, that would be a little crazy, right?

No, General Conference does occur in Salt Lake City, Utah in the Conference Center, but it is broadcast to T.V. stations, radio, by satellite to church buildings all over the world, and over the internet. Every member from all over the world is able to watch and listen to General Conference because of technology.

So, how long is LDS General Conference and when does it occur? General Conference occurs twice a year on the first Saturday and Sunday of April and the first Saturday and Sunday of October. There are five sessions of General Conference over those two days and each session is two hours long.

One of the sessions is the Priesthood session or the Women’s session which is on Saturday night. Only men and boys age 12 and older go to the Priesthood session which is held Saturday evening during the April General Conferences. In October the Women’s session is held instead. Only women and girls age 8 and older go to the Women’s session. There are two other sessions for everyone on Saturday: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. There are also two sessions for everyone on Sunday: one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Who speaks at General Conference? Every member of the First Presidency (the prophet and his two counselors) speak and every member of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles speak at some point during General Conference. There are several other speakers that come from a variety of leadership positions in the church.
