Five Fat Turkeys Song and Stick Puppets

Five Fat Turkeys Song with Free Printable Stick Puppets

Thanksgiving is a fun holiday, but it definitely doesn’t have as many songs and activities that naturally go with it. Luckily for me, I majored in Elementary Education and learned a really funny Thanksgiving song many years ago. I learned this song when I was in my Music Education class. It is about five fat turkeys hiding in a tree from a cook. :) There is a video with the song at the end of the post, but first I will tell you about the stick puppets that I made for this song.

I printed these puppets in color on cardstock. I usually laminate things for preschool, but I didn’t laminate these because they are just for Thanksgiving and won’t get as much use as some other preschool activities. After printing, I cut out the pictures. The five turkeys should not be cut separately. They should all be together like this.

After they were all cut out, I attached popsicle sticks using tape. I then put some magnet strips with sticky backs onto the popsicle sticks.

Here are the stick puppets finished.

You can see that I attached the popsicle sticks at a strange angle for both the tree and the turkeys. You’ll see why in a minute.

While singing the song, Little Bear puts the stick puppets onto the cookie sheet along with the words of the song. You can see that the angle of the popsicle sticks on the turkeys and tree make this much easier.

After the song is over, Little Bear really likes having the cook realize the turkeys are in the tree and then pretend to eat them. He thinks it’s really funny that we eat turkeys for Thanksgiving. I think it’s really delicious to eat turkey for Thanksgiving, but that’s just me. ;)

Here is the video of Little Bear and I singing the Five Fat Turkeys song. Kids love this song so enjoy singing it with your kiddos. Don’t forget to print off the Five Fat Turkey Stick Puppets if you want to “act” out the song like we did.
